Social media trends to look out for this Summer
With the landscape of social media constantly changing, it is important to keep on top of the trends that we are seeing come to the fore. So, with that in mind here are some trends to look out for this summer.
Due to the increasing interaction between companies and their customers, social media questions posed by consumers must be answered by firms wishing to remain competitive. However, many companies receive thousands of very similar questions to their customer services department. The answer for many companies to respond to all of these questions is chatbots, which can answer consumer questions and even take orders for a company's products. Trends have shown a steady increase in interest in chatbots as they become more and more mainstream, with Facebook employing more than 100,000 chatbots currently. This takes the pressure off a company's marketing team allowing them to focus on improving the brand.
Instagram has been the stand out social media platform of the last few years and whilst Instagram stories are not a new phenomenon, business owners are now using the platform to enhance their company. The fleeting nature of a story can be used to create scarcity. A one-time offer or product for example can help to create demand for a business. This trend is set to increase exponentially throughout 2018 with summer deals being a great catalyst for this kind of marketing.
Social Messaging and Messenger Marketing
Social messaging apps such as Whatsapp, Facebook Messenger and WeChat now have officially more users than the traditional platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. This has been recognised and many of these platforms are offering advertisement opportunities to firms who wish to directly message their customers, such as Facebook's click to messenger ads. This method of advertisement has shown to be effective with 61% consumers stating that they like receiving personalised messages from businesses. With this in mind we predict that this is an area that is going to explode over the next few months.
Carrying on with the theme of advertisement, the use of adverts across social media is also increasing in vast amounts. This is for two reasons. The first being that companies have realised what an important tool social media is for their business and are using social media adverts as part of their normal marketing budget. The advantage of this type of advertisement is that often you can immediately view the insights and data that your adverts is generating allowing you to adapt quickly. The second reason is that many of the social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter are reducing organic reach, especially from business pages, meaning that companies are having to use adverts to get their message out there. This trend of the platforms limiting organic reach looks set to continue and therefore so does the trend for the increasing use of advertisement.
